The boundless versatility of „poufs“ or ottomans has made them tremendously popular in recent years. Though their historical background remains to be investigated, the type of backless upholstered chair with cushion is found in diverse cultures around the world. As a „zafu”, or Japanese „sewn seat”, it is frequently used for meditation.Photos: Susanne Bettina Armberger/ Christoph Radl
